The Courage to Care

The Courage to Care is a curated collection of 140 fiercely personal reflections, poems, paintings, photos, graphic illustrations, song lyrics, and food recipes about receiving and giving care. They illustrate the extent and vibrancy of caring taking place in Canada. The hard truths and the sticky love. They show caring as it is, neither heroic and saintly nor devastating and hopeless, especially when supports are available.
The Courage to Care:
  • Shines a light on natural caring as the invisible and indispensable force that connects Canadians to each other and the living world.
  • Reminds readers they are not alone, and that they are part of a mighty and majestic network of caring people.
  • Reveals caring as a unifying force in Canada.

The Courage to Care will be published by the Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network. All proceeds will support the wonderful work of the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence.

Impact: Six Patterns to Spread Your Social Innovation

Impact beautifully distills the insights and deep wisdom of one of the world’s great social innovators. Etmanski’s book is far more than a practical guide: it’s an invitation to re-imagine possibilities for our lives and for the world we create.” – David Bornstein, author “How To Change The World”

Impact explores the difference between short term success and lasting impact. It’s for those who have wondered why, despite our best efforts, talent and money we have not made as big a dent in our social and environmental challenges as we’d like. As Severin Cullis-Suzuki says in her exquisite Foreword to the book: My question has changed from ‘how can I change the world,’ to ‘why isn’t it working?’

Impact profiles more than 50 Canadians who are achieving lasting social impact, looking past quick wins and surface-level victories, and paying attention to the deeper patterns of change. My hope is that this book will shine a light on the good work Canadians have done, are doing and will do to move the dial, change a paradigm, tip a system and achieve lasting social impact.Impact Six Patterns to Spread Your Social Innovation Image of Book Cover

I hope the book becomes a catalyst for appreciating the talent, ingenuity and creativity we have within our midst. And for unifying our efforts. Long may we run.

A Good Life – for you and your loved one with a disability

This is not your typical book about people with disabilities; it is an inspirational guide to rethinking disability and the value of people with disability in a caring society. A Good Life offers a very different perspective about what is truly important when contemplating the future of people with disabilities. This future planning guide includes will and estate planning, supported decision-making, developing a circle of support and alternatives to legal guardianship.
